One of the most common dilemmas that I hear when working with clients is how stressful and overwhelming it is to choose and hang art. Not only do my clients get frustrating when it comes to selecting art, but even choosing family photos to enlarge and frame falls to the bottom of their priority list. This is understandable and very hard for everyone. There is a lot of planning that is involved in this type of task, and most folks do not have long stretches of time to invest in the planning process. I like to guide my clients through the process. The first step is to decide the areas in your home where you would like to to display art or photos. The second step is to decide if you want to create a gallery wall in those areas, or just hang a single piece. If single piece of art is in order, think about displaying pieces that you have a personal connection with. If this is not possible there are many sites to search for art that resonates with you. The piece in the image above is from northandfitch.com which is a wonderful resource for art. I also love to search Etsy.com for artists who create original and reproduction art. You can also visit local galleries, art shows and flea markets for interesting pieces. If you would like to create a gallery wall, your wall could be a collection of photos, or you can choose to mix photos, paintings and drawings. The third step is to begin to compile the items that you want to hang in a group, decide if you are going to have the items professionally framed or frame them yourself. Companies like Framebridge make framing easy, just upload the image you want framed, select your frame and have it delivered. Step four is to hang the items in the designated areas by using picture hanging kits. Try and push through the process, adding personalized art and/or photography is what makes your space feel like home!
